Types of Treatments

We Offer a Range of Evidence-Based
Treatment Options

At Midtown Psychology Services, all of our work with clients is personalized to the strengths and needs of each individual and family. We work from a strengths-based approach and spend time at the initial intake appointment becoming familiar with the unique resiliency factors and areas of difficulty that each client is currently experiencing. The treatment process is transparent and collaborative, with clients playing an active role in their therapy. For these reasons, treatment looks different for each individual; however, care is always based on strategies that have demonstrated success through research.

Some of the treatments that we have specialized training and experience with include the following:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy, referred to as CBT, is a treatment that has strong research support in reducing symptoms of anxiety, depression, and various other mental health conditions. CBT focuses on the internal narratives of the mind, showing that automatic, reoccurring thoughts can cause various mood states and influence how one responds to different situations and stressors. CBT aims to change unhelpful thinking styles and patterns of learned behavior and thus teaches better coping mechanisms.

Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an evidence-based, time-limited treatment approach that was first developed to treat disruptive behavior disorders in youth between the ages of two and seven years old. PCIT has well-documented efficacy in reducing disruptive behavior and improving parent-child relationships for young children. In numerous studies, PCIT has resulted in decreased hyperactivity and inattention, increased compliance, and decreased numbers of youth who meet criteria for a disruptive behavior disorder.
